Interviews - Ankita Singh,  Miss India Fitness 2014, IBBF Pro, India.

Q: How do you manage all this in your busy schedule?

Ankita Singh: Being a full time software professional which requires 10 hours of your time, it is hard for one to take time out and concentrate on getting fitter and not to mention the time spent in travel to and fro which can be as much as 4 hours as in my case. But with ones passion and desire nothing is impossible. I used to cut down on my lunch and tea breaks to a miniscule time so that I could hit the office gym. Diet is one of the most important but underrated aspect of fitness so I had to wake up early and cook for myself so that I make sure I am eating clean. With all this I have adjusted my body to adapt a 4 hour sleep which allows me a cushion to pursue my passion

Q: What according to you must be the mindset towards fitness?

Ankita Singh: Fitness to me should be part of our daily life. A person incorporating fitness in their routine life is able to concentrate better at work is able to relieve all the stress both mental and physical stress through exercise, is also able to maintain a good blood circulation and prevent illnesses. It also helps one look younger than ones age by maintain a good fitness routine.

Q: You are an inspiration for a nation how does it feel?

Ankita Singh: I feel humbled by the fact the people consider me to be an inspiration to them..I am at a loss of words and overwhelmed with emotion when people from different parts of the country come to meet me and witness my competitions or message and tell me that they saw me at such and such a place.. But a true sense of satisfaction in my head would arise when I see many young women start taking to fitness and make fitness as a part of their daily life.

Q: What message would you like to give those who say its a mans sport?

Ankita Singh: Its the social stereotypes who label something as a mans domain. We live in a world where people say that men and women are equal but practice the opposite by labelling things as a mans sport or job. It is this thinking which needs to change. Women these days are realizing that they have been suppressed all these years because of the stereotypes. They are now venturing into different fields and walking with men matching them shoulder for shoulder. I wish to encourage many more young girls to pursue their passion no matter what the society says because one day the same society will proudly say I knew her and am proud of her.

Q: What motivated you?

Ankita Singh: I had an inclination towards sport from a very young age. From martial arts to aerobics in school. During my college days due to health and personal problems I desired to become stronger both mentally and physically. I just gave a dungeon gym close to college a shot and it is here that I was introduced to the fitness world which I fell in love with. I began reading about different exercises, diets and started experimenting these on myself. This desire to stay physically and mentally fit is my motivation to be fit

Q: Few words for women of today's generation:

Ankita Singh: Women around the world these days know and believe that they are no less than men. Women are venturing into territories traditionally thought to be a mans world which is very heartening to see. I would want more n more women in India to participate in sport, excel in the field of education and make fitness a part of their daily life. As the saying goes you educate a woman the entire family is educated I similarly believe a fit woman in the house ensures the family stays healthy and fit

You have one life, pursue your passion with your heart n soul, No matter the obstacles you face!
One day you would be the sense of pride to the people who initially opposed you. So, trust your abilities, have faith in yourself. Because this is all it takes.
